Hi Cameron,
It looks like you've conquered France, though with the exception of the Napoleonic Era, everyone conquers France. Going to the Louvre is one of my and my wife's "to do things" before we kick the bucket. I am curious if you will get to the beaches of Normandy, the Maginot Line, or Verdun while you are in France. John would lick his chops for some personal pictures. The blog is great so far and I hope you're getting some good feedback!

Cam the Man (and you two oldies too)-

Thank you so much for doing this blog, can't tell you how much I am enjoying it.

Lets see - 9 days will be spent in Paris - I forget how much time remains, and I know Ric has a pretty good schedule laid out, but I just read an amazing article in Sunday's NYT Magazine about Jean Nouvel, the Paris architect who last week won the very prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize.

To me both he and his architecture are intensely interesting - I think you too might dig the article, Ric. I would just love to see, in particular, his Insitut du Monde in Paris. It opened in 1987 and was Nouvel's big international breakthrough as an architect. It has this incredible south facade that consists of a technologically modern version of Moorish latticed screens, patios and balconies. There are all these camera shutter-like diaphragms through the whole latticed wall that regulate the amount of light that enters so that the light and shadow in the interior of the building mimics that found inside buildings in Arab countries, instead of what occurs in the cloudier climate of Paris.

The photographs make it look astounding and very beautiful. I would very much like to see it. If you have time to take it in, I would love to hear your impressions.

Its location: "Wedged along the Siene, between Paris's medieval kernal of the Ile Saint-Louis to the north and the brutally modern campus of Jussieu university to the south..."

hope you all are well, ta ta, Fred
